In most cases, accessories (including dry-herb and concentrate vaporizer devices) are not covered when you only have a standard medical cannabis document. However, your clinic or physician may be able to provide a separate, specialized medical document that allows reimbursement up to $400 once every 3 years for a vaporizer device.
What is not covered in most cases
With a standard medical cannabis document, VAC/Blue Cross typically does not cover accessories such as:
Dry-herb vaporizer devices
Concentrate vaporizer devices
Grinders and other non-cannabis accessories
Not included in this article: vape cartridges and all-in-one vapes are cannabis products, not accessories.
When a Dry-herb or Concentrate vaporizer device may be covered
A vaporizer device may be eligible for reimbursement only when you have a separate, specialized medical document for a vaporizer device. When approved, coverage is typically limited to:
Up to $400
Once every 3 years
How to obtain a specialized medical document (vaporizer prescription)
Ask your clinic/physician for a separate medical document specifically for a vaporizer device (separate from your standard cannabis medical document).
Have your clinic/physician fax the specialized medical document to Mendo using our secure fax line:

How Mendo partners with Toronto Vaporizer (TVape)
Mendo partners with Toronto Vaporizer (TVape) to simplify the process when a vaporizer device is eligible.
Here’s how it works:
You select a vaporizer device through TVape’s selection.
Mendo handles the VAC/Blue Cross information TVape needs (you do not need to provide your Veteran ID/K-number directly to TVape).
TVape direct bills Blue Cross on your behalf.
TVape ships the device once reimbursement is received.
